Get started by taking tour of British history with the BBC interactive timeline! You can chose the 'Take a journey' option and explore themes such as slavery, women's rights, technology and kings and queens.

UK Teachers can download free clips and images on British Pathé. All you have to do is use your school's broadband internet connection and the site automatically discounts the clips at the checkout. Clips and images can be downloaded in a choice of formats, including Windows Media Player (WMV). The history department at the Sir Bernard Lovell School in Gloucestershire has a really good web page containing loads of links on Black history. Click on 'History home page', then 'Year 7' or 'Year 8' to take you to similar pages on medieval and 17th/18th century history. A very thorough site!

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission was set up during the First World War to set up and continue to care for the graves and memorials of 1.7 million men and women from across the Commonwealth who died in the two World Wars. In all there was a total of 1,146,918 burials. In Year 8 we willbe looking at the history of WWI from the point of view of two people who worked at Nodehill and who died in the conflict. The CWGC has a interesting website and we will be using it in our studies.
Channel 4 has a special mircosite, 'The Lost Generation', dealing with lots of aspects of the history of WWI. A really detailed site with lots of links to other sites and pieces of information. This is well worth a look.

In Year 8 we look at how women achieved the vote in the early 20th century. The BBC has an interactive quiz which tells the story of how women were treated during the 19th and 20th centuries.

This is a BRILLIANT site for lots of subjects, not just history! There is lots of easy to use information to help with subject topics under homework help and there are also games to play as well.

The Imperial War Museum has a really good set of easy to use pages exploring life during WWII.

Black History 4 Schools is a really simple website to use and contains teacher resources, articles and web links.
The Learning Curve website from the National Archives is another good site. Here you can investigate snapshots using on-line resources. There are some good resources for teachers too!

There's also lots of information about how to improve in history and examples of leveled work so you can see what different pieces look like.

Spartacus Educational is a really detailed site. Although a lot of the site is aimed at KS4 and above, it still has lots of useful information on many of our KS3 topics such as the medieval world, the English civil wars and slavery.
Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia people can add to and edit, has a history portal. Just remember that sometimes the information on the site might not be entirely accurate...
