John Lennon was born in Liverpool on 9th October 1940. He was shot and died in New York on 8th December 1980. John Lennon and the three other members of the Beatles helped shape popular music and culture during the 1960s. John Lennon was still very influential even after the Beatles had split up.

John Lennon and his second wife Yoko Ono began to make experimental music in the late 1960s and early 1970s which was very different from the type of pop music the Beatles had been making. They also supported many campaigns. Staying in bed to campaign for peace was one of the most famous examples.
